Sisters by FemSF is a members-only community for women building early-stage companies. As fractional CTO I helped build its platform: the website, the member area, the admin panel, LinkedIn-style messaging and automatic pre-screening, with personal data protected throughout. More than 1,000 applications have been pre-screened automatically, and reviewing one now takes the team 1 minute instead of 15. Members find everything in one place, and the community spends nothing on hosting, because I sponsor it and run the platform on my servers.

The starting point

Sisters is a members-only community in Silicon Valley for women building early-stage companies. Members get free workshops, warm intros to investors, advisors, honest feedback and a founder playbook.

A community like that holds the personal data of hundreds of founders and is careful about who gets in. It needed a platform of its own, built to protect that data, somewhere to run it, and a technical lead it could trust with both. Off-the-shelf community tools rarely give all of that at once.

What we did

  1. One system where communities usually stitch tools together

    As fractional CTO I helped the community's team build the whole system: the public website, the member area, the admin panel and messaging. Communities like this one usually patch together a site builder, a forum and a mailing tool; Sisters runs on one platform it controls.

  2. Two-minute applications, reviewed in 1 minute instead of 15

    Applying takes two minutes, so strong founders are not lost to a long form. Every application is pre-screened automatically, more than 1,000 so far, and then a person reads each one every Monday with the screening already done, which cut the review of one application from 15 minutes to 1.

  3. Members help each other without leaving the platform

    Members start topics, answer each other from their own experience, and message any member directly to ask for help or to offer it, LinkedIn-style, inside the community's own walls.

  4. Founders' data kept in one protected place

    Founders' profiles and messages are personal data, and the system is built to protect them, so member data does not sit scattered across outside tools.

  5. Hosting at no cost to the community

    I am also a sponsor of the community: it runs on my servers and I provide the hosting, so its budget goes to founders instead of infrastructure.

  6. One member area for everything, so members keep coming back

    Workshops, events, warm intros to investors, advisors and the Founder Playbook all live in the same member area, so a member finds everything in one place instead of chasing links.

357 women founders share one members-only community on a platform built for it. More than 1,000 applications have been pre-screened automatically, a person now reviews each in 1 minute instead of 15, and hosting costs the community nothing, because I sponsor it.
